This blog illustrates the Undercurrents exhibition which showcases recent arts-based research that unveils human connections and emotional ties with the ocean, created by practitioners and grassroots organizations in Ghana, South Africa, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Papua New Guinea. Displayed at The Glasgow School of Art’s Reid Gallery until April 29, 2023, the exhibition featured five artists from Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Ghana, and South Africa, who participated in the opening on April 14 and discussed their artworks during the Artist Talks event on April 15. The art projects received support from the Hub’s Deep Fund, which established the Deep Emotional Engagement Programme (DEEP) Fund to back community-led art initiatives that convey cultural and emotional relationships with the sea, often overlooked in discussions about ocean stewardship.
